Funeral and Thanksgiving Memorial Services

God’s love and power extend over all creation. Every life, including your own, is precious to God. Christians believe there is hope in death as in life, and there is new life in Christ after death. By faith, death is not the end.

Even those who claim a strong faith in God experience terrible loss at the death of a loved one. We will each have our own experiences of life and death, with different memories and feelings of love, grief and regret. To acknowledge this, funeral services help us express our faith and our feelings as we say farewell, to acknowledge our loss and our sorrow, and to reflect upon our own mortality. A funeral service celebrates life, articulates death, and offers the comfort of faith in Christ’s assurance of resurrection life.

Jesus said “do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.”

John 14.1-3

Church of England Website:

Heavenly Father,

you have not made us for darkness and death,

but for life with you for ever.

Without you we have nothing to hope for;

with you we have nothing to fear.

Speak to us now your words of eternal life.

Lift us from anxiety and guilt

to the light and peace of your presence,

and set the glory of your love before us;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you’re unwell and would like Home Communion, or Anointing with Healing Oils, or someone to pray with you near death, please be in touch.
